Source code now available

I’ve made the source code for the HeroQuest Card Creator available on GitHub.

This project started as a practical response to a familiar problem: creating custom HeroQuest cards that actually look and feel right. Fonts, spacing, icon placement, and proportions matter a lot with these cards. The card creator exists to remove that friction and make experimentation easier.

The tool itself has been in a solid, everyday-usable state for quite some time. What took longer was getting the code into a shape that felt reasonable to share. Before publishing it, I spent some time restructuring the project and cleaning up areas that only really make sense when you’re the sole person reading the code. It’s still evolving, but it’s now approachable enough for others to explore without needing prior context.

The project is now open source, and anyone is free to download, run, or reuse the code.

A note on where things stand:

  • The version available here on itch is the current public build, intended for normal use.
  • The GitHub repository contains the full source, and may move ahead of what’s published here as the project develops.

If you’re interested in seeing how it works internally, the repository includes a README with instructions for running the project locally and an overview of the structure. It assumes some comfort with command-line tools, but doesn’t dive into implementation details.

This devlog is mainly about making the project easier to learn from and build on. If that’s useful to you, feel free to take a look.
